The Wedding
“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today...”
I see you standing there, the other side of the hall,
See you look at her, knowing this is all wrong.
I watch in growing fear and dread, feeling far too small,
No-one is aware I’m here; I stay quiet, hidden in plain sight.
I listen quietly; eyes welled up with tears,
OH THE INJUSTICE! These are all my fears,
This is not how it should be! But no-body cares,
My heart begins to brake, this is my last chance.
“Do you take this woman...”
Say no, I plead silently; she is not for you, why do you not see?
A begin to fidget, I can’t help it, someone looks disapprovingly my way,
The sky outside darkens and begins to rain,
A painful smile escapes my lips, torture to my pain,
I listen quietly; eyes welled up with tears,
OH THE INJUSTICE! These are all my fears,
This is not how it should be! But no-body cares,
My heart begins to brake, this is my last chance.
“And do you take this man...”
I pray for a miracle that I know is not possible,
But I pray anyway in my dark sheltered corner,
A sudden courage fills my gut, reckless and stupid, but it’s all I got
Bet you all know the next bit that’s coming,
I listen quietly; eyes welled up with tears,
OH THE INJUSTICE! These are all my fears,
This is not how it should be! But no-body cares,
My heart begins to brake, this is my last chance.
“If anyone here knows why these two should not be joined in matrimony,
Speak now or forever hold your peace...”
“STOP!!!!!”
The room turns, everyone stares, I open my mouth, and for once I feel brave...
Pillows...
What...?
Warmth...
Huh...?
Soft...
Bed...
Eyes closed...
It was all a dream! Are you fucking kidding me?
